You know, I used to be able to wash my hand in peace. Turn on the water, soap, clean, done. Now, d**n it, I'm unable to do this. A friend has decided, in his infinite mischief, to describe the following dilemma, which I'm afraid, I must foist upon thee.
He also believes in washing his hands. Yet, most public restrooms insist upon a two handle design, one hot and one cold. Being the efficient (read: lazy) man that he is, he only wishes to turn on the water using one handle. He choose hot. His goal is to wash his hands quickly enough before the hot water scalds him. At times, he fails, and must either bear the pain (most likely the case for him) or turn on the cold water.
And therein lies the problem. Why the h**l do we have hot water in a public restroom? The water is their primarily to wash hands, not to clean dirty pots and pans. Thus, the need for scalding water is nearly zero. It should be lukewarm at best.
And really, why do we have two handles? Didn't they solve this problem already? It uses a single handle where you control temperature and water flow. Why aren't lavatories designed with this obvious solution?
Unintelligent design in action.
