This was the final that everyone was hoping for. Federer. Nadal. Federer has never lost in a Grand Slam final. Nadal has a 5-1 record over Federer. Federer has won the last three Grand Slams. Nadal has won 59 consecutive mathes on clay.
Federer took a 5-0 lead in the first set, on a bit of a surprise tactic. I'm used to seeing Federer hit powerful shot after powerful shot, bullying an opponent. Against Nadal, Federer has lofted precision semi lobs up the line, surprising Nadal by pulling him out of positions and hitting weak shots which Federer has pounced on. Nadal managed one game, but fell back 6-1.
This didn't seem like a promising start to the match, but just when Federer's strategy seemed to be working well, the second set has seen Federer make more errors, leading to Nadal being more confident with his shots. With a break in the second, Nadal now leads 4-1.
More to come.
