CSPAN does something that every network covering the debate should do, and that is to display the question that is asked. If they would do this, you would see how much the politician evades the question being asked.
And believe me, they do a lot of evading. The average listener often forgets the question. So the networks should be obligated to put it up.

Lauren and I made sure to watch the debate on cspan, instead of another channel. I think your advice about how to best watch american idol applies here - it is best to get it unfiltered, to decide for yourself, before going to what the (somewhat arbitrarily appointed) critics have to say. I've been taking the same approach to movies recently, as well, deciding from the metacritic score and their choice blurbs (as well as d'angelo's twitter stream) what to see, then perhaps reading a few reviews after I've seen the movie, if I feel the need.
